LOCAL RESTAURANTS

This page was developed to provide information about local restaurants for visitors to the University of Maryland. You may also want to check the Washington Post restaurant guide for College Park, Chefmoz, or campusfood.com.

The Stamp Student Union on campus has a food court with many options and a genuine food co-op.   The two restaurants with the longest weekend and evening hours, Panda Express and MacDonald's, do not post their hours on the Union web site (they stay open longer when there are a lot of visitors to campus, so the hours are hard to predict). Other recommendations are:

Seven Seas (Chinese food, a bit north of campus, but very close)
8503 Baltimore Ave. - map
College Park, MD 20740
301.345.5807

There are many restaurants in downtown College Park, approximately 2 blocks south of campus along Route 1, including:

Ten Ren's Tea Time, a tea house.
This tea house has a nice atmosphere, a Taiwanese flavor and excellent (but pricey) hot tea and bubble teas.
7418 Baltimore Ave.

Kimi and Phil's China Cafe
Fast food, styrofoam dishes, very cheap take out, but surprisingly good.

Pita Plus (Kosher)
4425-4427 Lehigh Rd

RJ Bentley's
Sports bar with burgers.
7323 Baltimore Ave.

Santa Fe Cafe
A TexMex sports bar across the street from RJ Bentley's and next to Kimi and Phil's China Cafe.
4410 Knox Rd.

Cornerstone Grill
Yet another sports bar, next door to R J Bentley's
7325 Baltimore Ave.

A Greek diner just a tad futher south on Route 1:

Plato's Diner
7150 Baltimore Ave.
Phone:  301-779-7070
Classic diner fare including breakfast any time, large portions, Greek specialties and fruit pies.

An restaurant-brewery south on Route 1:

Franklins
5123 Baltimore Avenue
Hyattsville, MD
Phone: 301-927-2740
A restaurant and brew pub connected to a funky historic general store.

For somewhat fancier dining:

94TH Aerosquadron
5240 Paint Branch Parkway
Phone:  301-699-9400

Steak, seafood, etc.  WWII French farmhouse decor, overlooking the runway of historic College Park Airport.  As you exit University of Maryland campus on Campus Drive, continue straight.  As you cross Route 1, the road name changes to Paint Branch Pkwy.  Stay on Paint Branch Pkwy as it winds around for 1.3 miles.  On the left, past the indoor tennis courts, look for a sign at the driveway entrance to 94TH Aerosquadron.  The driveway is located across the street from and just past the Wells Ice Rink.

Calvert House Inn
6211 Baltimore Ave.
Riverdale, MD
Phone:  301-864-5220

Seafood, steak, etc.  Located a couple of miles south of campus on Route 1 about one block past the intersection with East-West Hwy (410).  On the left, among several small storefronts.  Parking available behind the building.

A little further out (West) on University Blvd.:

Samantha's
631 University Blvd.
Phone:  301-445-7300

Probably the best of several "pan-Latin" eateries in the Langley Park area, a mile or two west of campus on University Blvd.. Samantha's is open late (until 11).

South Indian cuisine (a cluster of three excellent restaurants in Langley Park):

Udupi Palace
1329 University Blvd.
Phone:  301-434-1531
Authentic vegetarian dishes from South India. This restaurant is in Langley Park, two or three miles west of the campus along University Blvd.

Tiffin
1341 University Blvd.
Phone:  301-434-9200
A "nicer" restaurant with some meat dishes. Tiffin is run by the owners of Udupi Palace, but may be a little less authentic.

Woodland Indian Vegetarian Restraunt
8046 New Hampshire Ave. (at University Blvd.).
Phone:  301-434-4202
